I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Data Science at Columbia University. The first two semesters have been a rigorous and interesting journey where I also had an opportunity to meet many talented and passionate people from all over the world. The program provides courses on machine learning, statistical inference and modeling, deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), and much more. During my program so far, I have worked as a teaching assistant to teach Python and its application in public policy for Columbia SIPA Master’s students, and also as a research assistant at the Columbia medical campus where I had an opportunity to utilize NLP models to classify comments and perform sentiment analysis on medical student feedback. During the summer break, I worked at an investment bank called Moelis & Company as a data science intern, where my primary role was to perform shareholder profile analysis through exploratory data visualization, unsupervised learning and measuring similarity among shareholders. For my final semester, I plan to take an applied deep learning course and a capstone project. While I am still open to many domains, I primarily want to work as a data scientist in financial and consulting domain upon graduation. I am very interested in applying data science in these diverse fields to better understand behaviors and recognizing patterns in data that could lead to actionable insights.
