Sung Hwan Kim served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2013. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Seoul National University. He studied at the University of London and received an honorary doctoral degree from Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages in Uzbekistan. His writings include 격동하는 러시아 정치 (The Turbulent Politics of Russia) and he co-translated The Mind and Heart of the Negotiator into Korean. His principle academic interests lie in the United States-Korea relations, China-Korea relations, and Asia’s Collective Security Organizations.

Career

  • 2012-2013: Advisor to the UN Secretary General regarding ‘Post-MDG’
  • 2013-2015: Invited Chair Professor in the Graduate School of International Studies Seoul National University and Head of Global Community Service (글로벌사회봉사)
  • 2014-2015: Advisor for the Korean Association of International Development and Cooperation (KAIDEC)
  • 2014-Present: Chief Director of Gangwon Arts and Culture Foundation (GACF)
  • 2014-Present: Director of the Korean East Asia Foundation (KEAF)
  • 2016-Present: Distinguished Professor and Head of Volunteering Service in Hanyang DIS
